Update from the Classroom!

Our arts-integrated projects are designed as far as possible to be relevant to “real life” situations, to teach self-reflection and critical life skills as well as core academics. A good example of this currently is a display of scale-model food trucks constructed by our 8th graders. This project brought together math, writing, research, and art and design skills.

Students were challenged to conceptualize an original food truck, write a business plan, research the market, identify start-up costs, and calculate earnings projections. The children worked with teaching artists from the Community Arts Center in Wallingford to create scaled drawings of their food trucks before recreating the designs as 3D models, constructed primarily from recycled materials.
