Character Development

CUSA takes the development of character very seriously.

Embedded in the core philosophy of its educational program is the nurturing of character traits that will build scholars, artists, and leaders. Every person in the school—students, teachers and staff— is expected to treat others respectfully, thoughtfully and courteously and to commit to a carefully considered Code of Conduct that encourages positive behavior choices and communication-skills development. All school activities are informed by this principle.

Because parents and caregivers are their children’s primary teachers, we believe they must be directly involved in their children’s education. Our students’ success is enhanced by their involvement.

CUSA families are expected to sign the school contract and commit themselves to ensuring that their children complete homework, read at home, get adequate sleep and nutrition and arrive at school on time.

A Columbia University study revealed that students in the arts are found to be more cooperative with teachers and peers, more self-confident and better able to express their ideas. These benefits exist across socioeconomic levels.
